About the Client

The client was established in the year 1999 by the Government of Abu Dhabi to implement the Gas Project. This unique strategic energy initiative began gas production in July 2007. The Project involves production and processing of natural gas from Qatar's offshore North Field, and transportation of the processed gas by subsea pipeline to the UAE and Oman. Approximately 30% of entire UAE's power requirement is fulfilled by the natural gas supply from the client.

Business Situation

As a leading oil and gas company, the client has an extensive supplier base to fulfill its business needs. They have close to 3000 suppliers' and 40,000 materials' information in the master data. It uses SAP MM, SD, PS, PM and FI modules to meet its various business requirements. In traditional SAP ERP, sourcing is done by InfoRecord, or contract and supplier have to be registered manually to include them in the RFQ process, thus it was on individual discretion whether to include a supplier in the RFQ process.
Client was facing multiple challenges due to limitations of the existing system, including:
  • Unable to establish a supplier relationship
  • Manual process to include suppliers for the RFQ process
  • Lack of system to keep track of potential supplier list
  • Valuable time spent on answering vendor queries on order status
  • Inability to evaluate vendors automatically

Service Offered By Kaar

The Client engaged Kaar to implement SAP SRM solution as Kaar met most of the envisioned requirements of client's Procurement and Contract (P&D) team. It included creating an avenue for potential suppliers to register themselves to
participate in the RFQ process.
The SAP SRM Supplier Self Service component has features to host a portal in which suppliers can:
  • Register for the RFQ Process
  • Assign a product category
  • Submit responses to RFQ's
  • Maintain and manage all relevant data
  • View order life cycle data (Status of GR and Invoice)
  • View their performance
The SAP SRM implementation scope of work covered several technical systems and Kaar was able to successfully implement all of them, including:
  • SAP SRM Server 7.0 Ehp1
  •  SAP ECC 6.0 Ehp5
  • SAP Netweaver PI 7.0
  • SAP Enterprise Portal 7.0 and SAP SRM SUS (outside firewall)
The Kaar team also integrated the entire document flow between the systems on a secured layer. In addition, the customer also wanted the suppliers to input their bank details during registration so that the procurement process can be expedited when a supplier quote is accepted; The Kaar team enhanced SAP SUS using WebDynPro to create this custom feature.
